Longtime Northwest Mississippi Community College head men’s basketball coach Bubba Skelton has announced the signing of Horn Lake point guard Jitaurious Gordon to a national letter of intent to play for the Rangers next season.
“Jitaurious is the type of lead guard that we have been looking for and we believe he can bring scoring and explosiveness to our team,” Skelton said. “We’re glad to have a guy from Tori Harris and Horn Lake who plays a similar style and motion offense we run at Northwest.”
Gordon, who stands at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, averaged a team-best 26.2 points per game this season for the 19-10 Eagles and filled up the stat sheet with 5.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.7 steals a game while shooting 53 percent from the floor.
Gordon scored in double figures in all 29 games this season, including 48 against Olive Branch and 49 against Southaven, and was named MVP of the Larry Ransom Holiday Classic. He torched Lake Cormorant for a career-high 50 points his junior season.
Harris had very high praise for his senior guard, telling the DeSoto Times-Tribune back in February that Gordon “is Mississippi’s top point guard, bar none.”
“He moves laterally very well and he’s strong,” Harris said. “He can score the basketball at all different levels, but he’s also a very good passer. He’s more of a traditional point guard but he’s had to score more for us in this situation this year.”
Feted by nearly a dozen Division I schools before signing with Northwest, Gordon finished with over 1,000 points for his Horn Lake career.
