Oxford Named In Southern Living's "15 Southern Cities All Food Lovers Should Visit Now”

Whether it’s fine dining on the Square or a restaurant off the beaten path, Oxford knows good food. Southern Living Magazine agrees and has named Oxford as one of the “15 Southern Cities All Food Lovers Should Visit Now
“Wood-fired Italian at Saint Leo, a 2017 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best New Restaurant; drinks on the porch overlooking the square at City Grocery; oysters and okra chaat from Chef Vishwesh Bhatt at Snackbar; and Smash Burgers at the newest outpost of Tupelo-based Neon Pig.” – Southern Living.
While everything the author named is exceptional, that list could’ve filled the page. New restaurants continue to open and established ones continue to thrive in the food centric town in North Mississippi. Saint Leo has recently been named as one of the 50 best new restaurants by Bon Appetit, several restaurants were recently been filmed to be featured on the Food Network, and excitement is building around the town’s newest restaurants.
Oxford may be a small town, but it’s built on big flavors.
Southern Living also recommends a trip to the Delta to visit Cleveland, Mississippi.
“Butcher shop and farm-to-table cafe, Delta Meat Market; burgers and live music at Hey Joe’s run by unofficial mayor Weejy Rogers; hand-made tamales at gas station Delta Fast Food; food truck Levee Break Grill; and real-deal soul food at The Senator’s Place.” – Southern Living
A quick trip from Oxford on I-55 lands you in Memphis, another location named on the magazine’s list.
“Wood-fired pizza at Hog and Hominy; hand-made pasta and cacio e pepe-style Brussels sprouts at Catherine and Mary’s; dive destination Ernestine and Hazel’s with their Soul Burgers and haunted jukebox; Loflin Yard’s dressed-up chicken wings; ribs at Charles Vergos’ Rendezvous; a chopped pork sandwich at Payne’s Bar-B-Que; coffee and a cookie at Muddy’s Bake Shop in Midtown; and cocktails at The Beauty Shop, Priscilla Presley’s former hair parlor.” – Southern Living
