Visit Oxford Awards $10,000 Grant to Oxford Film Festival

Actor Danny Glover attended last year’s Oxford Film Festival and gave interviews before attending Raoul Peck’s documentary, “I Am Not Your Negro.”

Visit Oxford has awarded a $10,000 grant to the Oxford Film Festival (OFF) for its 15th-anniversary event, which will take place here February 7-11.

“Throughout the years, Visit Oxford has consistently supported Oxford Film Festival, and we are so thankful for their generosity,” said Melanie Addington, executive director of Oxford Film Festival. “Because of their support, we have been able to continue to broaden our presence of arts and assure that each festival is even better than the last.”

The 2018 festival is expected to grow in attendance from 6,800 to 7,000 attendees. The donations and support from organizations like Visit Oxford have helped the OFF get listed in the Top 100 Best Reviewed Festivals on FilmFreeway.com. The festival is accepting sponsor pledges and donations for the 2017-2018 year.

The Oxford Film Festival was founded in 2003 to bring exciting, new and unusual films (and the people who create them) to North Mississippi. The annual five-day festival screens short and feature-length films in both showcase and competition settings, including narrative and documentary features and shorts; Mississippi narratives, documentaries and music videos; and narrative, documentary, animated and experimental shorts. The festival is a 501c3 not-for- profit organization.
