Ole Miss women’s basketball freshman Promise Taylor received SEC Freshman of the Week honors, the league office announced on Tuesday. Taylor has now gotten this award three times this season.
Last week, Taylor put up solid numbers against No. 11 Missouri (16 points and 13 rebounds) and at Florida (12 points). Against the Tigers, she earned her second career double-double in a Rebel uniform, and the 13 boards were a career-high as well.
Taylor has shot .750 from the floor in the last two outings.
Taylor is the SEC’s top-ranked freshman in shooting percentage (fifth, .595), and ranks 15th in the NCAA in blocks with 2.7 per game. At her current pace, Taylor should surpass the single-season blocks record of 67 set by Shawn Goff in 2007-08. Taylor is well on her way to a projected 78 blocks by season’s end.
The Rebels will return to action on Thursday night as they hit the road and take on No. 10 Tennessee up at Rocky Top.
