Ole Miss Students Create Candlelight Vigil for Grove Squirrel
Over the past week, Ole Miss students have turned to social media to express their solaces for a frozen Grove squirrel found on campus. Grove squirrels are common, loved creatures at Ole Miss, and with over 23,780 students currently enrolled at the University, it was hard for students to just pass by.
I’ve walked by the same dead Grove squirrel twice today (RIP) and the second time someone had placed white flowers on it how sweet

It’s a beautiful thing to watch every student that passes by the frozen grove squirrel pause and pay their respects. He went down fighting.

Some students even felt the urge to take action and properly pay their respects to the beloved Grove animal.
As the week went on, the Grove squirrel had accumulated quite the memorial site. White flowers, candles and signs have been laid next to their furry friend.
A Facebook event page titled “Candlelight Vigil for Frozen Grove Squirrel” was created by a group of students with over 43 RSVP’s to the service. Ole Miss students met at Barnard Hall Sunday and walked together to the squirrel site. Many students posted on Facebook and Twitter about the vigil’s success.
Frozen Grove squirrel is gone but not forgotten. The next time you see a Grove squirrel, do not take it for granted. Instead, let it know how much you appreciate it.
