Mississippi’s higher education commissioner is denying reports that University of Mississippi Chancellor Jeffrey Vitter will not be rehired when his term expires in 2020.
A writer for RebelGrove.com posted a tweet online Saturday that said Vitter not be retained.
“There is no truth to the rumor,” Dr. Glenn Boyce, state commissioner of higher education, wrote in an email to HottyToddy.com.
“Dr. Vitter’s first four-year contract began on January 1, 2016, which is the middle of the fiscal year. At the April IHL board meeting, the board approved a four-year contract beginning July 1, 2016 to align with the fiscal year. State law only allows a maximum of four-year contracts, so the contract ends June 30, 2020.”
Vitter, who succeeded Chancellor Dan Jones, has been in higher education for more than 37 years.
