Diamond Rebel Ryan Rolison Receives Heat Over Tweet

Sophomore Ryan Rolison had the Twitter universe buzzing Monday night after being selected as the 22nd pick by the Colorado Rockies during the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.

The conversation on Twitter continued later that night over a tweet he published on Nov. 6, 2012—the night President Barack Obama was re-elected for his second term.

Rolison has since deleted the post from his page.
Rolison addressed the 2012 tweet with Rockies General Manager Jeff Bridich on a conference call Tuesday with Yahoo Sports.
“It was in 2012, and it was a stupid tweet, and it was immature of me,” Rolison said. “I had no idea what I was talking about. It was immature of me to post something like that. People know that’s not who I am, and the Colorado Rockies know that’s not who I am.”
The Rockies organization reportedly combed through Rolison’s social media accounts prior to the draft. On the conference call Bridich stated he felt Rolison had “grown up in six years… and young people can say regrettable things on social media.”
“It was a long time ago, and he didn’t really know what he was talking about, it was regrettable,” Bridich said. “We know Ryan’s a good person, and we’ve had many conversations. It’s an opportunity to learn a lesson and move on to baseball, and I appreciate Ryan being upfront about it. We can just move on, and I look forward to him really being part of our organization.”
