Oxford High School senior Andrew Gardner was the recipient of the 2018 Orley Hood Excellence in Sports Journalism award.
This award is named after Vicksburg native and career journalist Orley Hood and is given to the most outstanding high school sports journalist in Mississippi. The recipient is chosen by a panel of sports journalists.
Gardner was recognized on May 22 at the Clarion-Ledger Sports Awards ceremony in Jackson at Thalia Mara Hall. Soccer legend Mia Hamm and her husband, former MLB All-Star Nomar Garciaparra, were the special guests at the fourth Clarion Ledger Sports Awards.
