Ole Miss junior right-fielder Ryan Olenek was selected Wednesday in the 17th round of the 2018 MLB draft by the San Francisco Giants.
Olenek finished the 2018 season with a .350 batting average and a .380 on-base percentage. The Winter Park, Florida native tagged 83 hits, 29 RBI’s and a .464 slugging percentage for the Rebels.
As a sophomore Olenek played in 53 games (51 in center field and two at third base). He ranked ninth in the SEC with a team-high 17 doubles. Olenek hit .272 with 25 RBI, 23 runs and three home runs.
Olenek came to Oxford from Trinity Preparatory School, where he lettered all four years. Perfect Game tabbed him as the 13th-best shortstop in the state of Florida in 2015.
