Junior defensive tackle Josiah Coatney represented the Ole Miss Landshark defense in Atlanta at the 2018 SEC Media Days.
Coatney is heading into this season after recording 61 tackles in all 12 games as a sophomore for the Rebels. He said he hopes to become a leader on the defense this season.
“The [coaches] want us to take a different role this year and focus more on leadership,” Coatney said. “The physical things probably aren’t the biggest things for me. It is the leadership. Leadership is something I want to develop this year.”
Every day in practice Coatney goes up against one of the nation’s best wide receiver in the country—A.J. Brown—who wants to pursue NFL play next year.
“The whole receiving corps does a great job of doing more even when it’s not expected of them,” Coatney said. “I would say their group probably works the most, and I inspire my group to step it up and match that level of intensity.”
