Lafayette County Man Dies in Morning Fire

A Lafayette County man died this morning after his home caught on fire, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department.

The Lafayette County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department responded at 10:30 Wednesday morning to a house fire on Highway 334. Firefighters discovered a man in his early 80s died in the house.
The Sheriff’s Department is not releasing the name of the man pending notification of next of kin.
The body was turned over to the Lafayette County coroner to be transported to Jackson for an autopsy; however, foul play is not expected at this time, according to the sheriff’s department.
“The investigation is ongoing at this time,” said Chief Investigator Alan Wilburn.
No information was provided on the cause of the fire.
