Ole Miss Track and Field Athlete Arrested for Sexual Assault

The Oxford Police Department arrested an Ole Miss track and field team member Saturday and charged him with sexual assault.

According to OPD, officers responded to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi for a report of a sexual assault. After interviewing the alleged victim, Courtland Barnes, 21, of Oxford was identified as the suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Barnes turned himself into the OPD and was taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was booked on a $10,000 bond.
According to the Ole Miss Athletics website, Barnes is on the track and field team and would be a junior this coming school year.
Kyle Campbell, associate athletic director for communications at Ole Miss, said in an email the matter has been reported to the university’s Title IX office.
