Many LOU residents visit the prestigious house of former Oxford author William Faulkner—Rowan Oak—for studying, photographs and various other occasions.

Recently, the house was named in Architectural Digest’s “14 Famous Authors’ Houses Worth Seeing.”

The house was originally built in 1844 and bought by Faulkner in 1930 after selling numerous copies of his novels, according to the publication. Six years after Faulkner passed away in 1962, the property and grounds were named a National Historic Landmark.

Open year round from dusk to dawn, visitors can explore the property for free. There is, however, a $5 admission fee to tour the house.

Additional hours and admission information can be viewed here.
