The University of Mississippi Medical Center and BlueCross BlueShield of Mississippi released a joint statement Aug. 14 in regards to finalizing an agreement that the two entities will continue to work together.

UMMC and BlueCross have been back and forth for the past several months in regards to their joint partnership. In May, UMMC announced it would end its contract with the insurance company, according to The Clarion Ledger.

Patients covered by BlueCross would still be able to seek treatment from the academic hospital under the broken contract. However, those patients could have faced out of pocket payments.

The joint statement thanked the Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney for encouraging both parties to enter a mediation meeting, which resulted in a continued joint partnership.
