The following reports were made Aug. 17-19, 2018, by city, university and county law enforcement agencies. 


Oxford Police Department issued 71 tickets and investigated 22 wrecks the following reports:

2 civil matters
1 code enforcement
1 credit card fraud
12 disturbing the peace complaints
1 domestic disturbance
2 false pretenses
2 harassment
4 improper parkings
5 lost properties
6 motorist assists
1 obstructing traffic
1 petty theft
1 property damage
1 recovered property
2 residential burglaries
1 scam
4 shopliftings
1 simple assault
7 suspicious activities
3 suspicious people
2 suspicious vehicles
3 vehicle burglaries
1 utility call
3 vehicle searches
8 welfare checks

Officers made the following arrests:
1 disorderly conduct
1 disturbing the peace
1 DUI
1 DUI and careless driving
1 DUI careless driving and no insurance
1 DUI and speeding
1 DUI-second and no driver’s license
2 fake IDs
4 Fake IDs and minor in possession of alcohol
1 littering
1 minor in possession of alcohol
1 minor in possession of alcohol and careless driving
1 no driver’s license, failure to yield and no insurance
4 noise violations
1 possession of schedule 1 drug and possession of schedule 4 drugs
1 possession of schedule 2 drug
1 possession of a schedule 2 drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, no driver’s license, expired tag and no seat belt
2 possession for drug paraphernalia
1 possession of drug paraphernalia and one headlight
1 possession of drug paraphernalia and running a red light
1 possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding
10 public drunks
1 public drunk and fake ID
2 shopliftings
1 driving while license suspended and warrant
1 warrant served

Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department investigated seven wrecks and the following reports:
2 simple assaults
2 alarms
1 animal complaint
1 residential burglary (CR 1001)
2 disturbances
1 domestic violence
2 harassments
1 juvenile complaint
7 service calls
1 sexual assault
7 suspicious activities
1 welfare concern
5 information calls
1 fraud
6 civil matters
4 EMS assists
3 noise complaints

Deputies made the following arrests:
1 disorderly conduct and domestic violence
1 public drunk
1 disturbance of family

University Police Department investigated three wrecks, made eight traffic stops and investigated the following reports:
1 suspicious person
2 frauds
2 vandalism
2 medical calls
Officers conducted 39 traffic stops and investigated the following reports:
4 wrecks
4 suspicious vehicles
1 fraud
1 possession of drug paraphernalia
2 EMS calls due to an intoxicated person
1 sexual battery
1 suspicious person
1 possession of alcohol by person under 21
3 medical calls
2 service calls
2 vandalism
1 reckless driving
1 harassing emails
1 burglary

Officers made the following arrests:
1 public drunk arrest
2 possession of drug paraphernalia

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
8/17 – 06:44 – 316 Windsor Dr. – upstairs smoke detector malfunction
8/17 – 09:56 – Phi Mu house – cooking in the kitchen activated a smoke detector
8/17 – 12:22 – Dr. Swaney office – smell of gas – didn’t find anything
8/17 – 13:08 – The Library Bar – testing the alarm system
8/17 – 18:57 – University Ave. / South 15th – car with back floorboard smoking – muffler was too hot causing smoke, no fire
8/17 – 20:29 – 108 Nelson Circle – helped EMS lift a patient
8/18 – 02:28 – Sigma Nu House – fire extinguisher prank
8/18 – 02:35 – 108 Nelson Circle – helped EMS lift patient when returning patient home
8/18 – 15:28 & 20:14 – Gus’s Fried Chicken – call canceled both times
8/18 – 16:29 & 17:30 – Chancellor House Hotel – smoke detector in basement elevator room malfunction
8/19 – 01:51 – Chancellor House Hotel room 216 – smoke detector malfunction
8/19 – 02:10 – ATO house #17 – smoke detector malfunction
8/19 – 08:01 – The Domain #3102 – smoke detector activation (report writer didn’t say why)
8/19 – 09:05 – Captain D’s – cleaning the grill activated a smoke detector
8/19 – 15:04 – Lucky Day Residential lobby roll up door – a child pulled the fire alarm
8/19 – 17:51 – Haven House – mopping the kitchen they bumped the fire alarm pull station by accident
8/19 – 22:04 – 249 Hwy. 314 (old Sardis road) – wreck with no entrapment
8/19 – 22:50 – 419 Howell Loop area (street behind Waller Funeral Home) wreck with no entrapment
8/20 – 01:06 – 502B Clearbrook Road – burning scent candles activated the smoke detector
