Week Two of High School Football

The Oxford Chargers hosted the Starkville Yellow Jackets in the sixth annual “Litte Egg Bowl” at Bobby Holcomb Field Friday, Aug. 24.

Starkville took a 7-0 lead in the game at the end of the first quarter. Oxford would answer on a John Meagher two-yard dash into the end zone knotting the game up at 7-7.

The Yellow Jackets quickly answered with two touchdowns of their own making it 21-7. Starkville defense held strong for the remainder of the game not letting Oxford score.

Starkville defeated the Chargers 56-7 and retained the trophy. Up next for Oxford is a matchup with Grenada.

Lafayette rolled to a 2-0 start on the season by defeating Charleston 41-8 on Friday, as well.

The Commodores answered quickly after fumbling the opening kickoff and getting it back with two scores from Jamie Shaw and Randy Anderson to take a 14-0 lead and never looked back.

At half time the Commodores would take a 34-0 advantage into the locker rooms.

Lafayette would add another touchdown by Lance Stewart on the ground in the third quarter.

Charleston would get on the board in the fourth quarter with a touchdown and two-point conversion.
