The Ole Miss Rebels will be without defensive back Jaylon Jones for the rest of the season. Jones suffered a torn ACL in the 47-27 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday.
Head coach Matt Luke announced the news at his weekly press conference Monday.
“We got the MRI back on (Jones) today and he does have a torn ACL and will have surgery on Friday,” Luke said.
In the game, Jones tallied seven tackles and a 94-yard touchdown kickoff return in the game.
“The loss of Jones is a tremendous loss for us in more ways than one,” Defensive Coordinator Wesley McGriff said. “He was a tremendous asset in terms of his leadership.”
Jones’ skill set allows him to play like a pro and at a very high level, McGriff said.
“It’s very important for him to be there for the guys with moral support and be an extra coach on the field,” Luke said.
