ESPN recently announced the Ole Miss men’s basketball start time against Iowa State in the Big 12 / SEC Challenge. Tipoff is set for Jan. 26, 2019 at 11 a.m. CT.
All 10 games of this sixth annual Big 12/SEC Challenge competition will be carried on the ESPN networks.
The non-conference matchup will appear on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. A specific television designation will be announced at a later date. Four of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge’s 10 games will be televised on ESPN, four on ESPN2 and two games will air on ESPNU. All 10 games will also be available on the ESPN app.
ESPN’s College GameDay Covered by State Farm – the Saturday roadshow that discusses the top storylines of the college basketball season – will originate from one of the Challenge games.
All 10 of the Big 12’s teams and 10 of the SEC’s 14 member institutions will participate in this year’s event. Each of the 10 SEC teams that participated in the 2018 Challenge will be a part of the 2019 event.
Last season, the SEC went 6-4 against the Big 12 after a 5-5 tie in 2017. This will be the fourth year that a bye in the league schedule for participating teams was created to accommodate the single-day format. The four SEC teams not participating will play each other in conference games the same day.
The Rebels and the Cyclones have only met once on the hardwood. Iowa State defeated Ole Miss 73-68 in Hawaii on Dec. 23, 2000. It was one of only eight losses all season for Ole Miss as the Rebels went on to capture the SEC Western Division title before advancing to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.
