Pope Man Charged with Aggravated Assault for Fight After Alabama Game

A Pope man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a fight on the Square following the Ole Miss football game against Alabama about two weeks ago.

On Sept. 16, the Oxford Police Department responded to a fight on the Square in the alley between Jackson and Monroe avenues.

When officers arrived they found a victim in the alley unconscious. The victim suffered significant injuries to the face and head. During the course of the investigation, Tyler Pirtle, 23, was identified as the alleged assailant.

Pirtle was charged with the felony charge of aggravated assault and arrested Tuesday. He was taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was booked on a $15,000 bond.
