The Mississippi Department of Health awarded Oxford a perfect score during its annual inspection of the city’s water supply.

The inspection was done on Aug. 5 and Oxford officials learned on Sept. 27 that the city received a 5.0 overall rating, which is the highest possible rating.

The inspection covers three areas – technical, managerial and financial. Oxford scored a 5 in each area.

Oxford’s Chief Operating Officer Bart Robinson said the city has generally received high ratings in the past.

“We’ve gotten 4.8, 4.9,” he said recently. “But we’re real happy about getting the 5.”

Mayor Robyn Tannehill publicly congratulated Robinson and the water department at the Oct. 16 Board of Aldermen meeting for the perfect score.

During the Sanitary Survey, no significant deficiencies were identified, according to the report from the MSDH. Other key points that helped Oxford earn the perfect score included the system having generators in place to provide power in the event of a power outage so customers continue to receive water, up-to-date inspections on the city’s tanks and no pressure problems noted.
