Officials: Nooses Found on Capitol Grounds in Jackson

Local news outlets are reporting Mississippi officials say two nooses and six “hate signs” were found this morning on the Mississippi Capitol grounds in Jackson.

According to the Clarion Ledger, director of communications for Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration, Chuck McIntosh, said between 7:30 and 8 a.m. Monday someone called WLBT-Channel 3 and told them they needed to report to the south lawn of the Capitol.

The Capitol Police allegedly removed the nooses and signs after being alerted to the tip.

Gov. Phil Bryant said in an email to the media, “The perpetrators of this act will be identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

WLBT reports Capitol police would not show the signs or surveillance video while they are actively investigating.
