OPD K9 Alerts Officers to Body During Robbery Pursuit

The Oxford Police Department located a body Friday, Nov. 30 at approximately 10 a.m. while in pursuit of a robbery suspect.

The body, which police believe to be that of the robbery suspect, was located between Oxford Square Townhomes and the shopping center on West Jackson Avenue.

OPD responded to a report of a strong-armed robbery earlier in the morning in the Hathorn Road area when an OPD K9 led police to the suspect, who was unresponsive upon arrival.

The suspect was confirmed dead by Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy. The name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

OPD contacted the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, per normal procedures, officials said. No other details are available at this time.
