Oxford’s newest shake and tea bar has grown popular throughout the LOU community since its opening in September. Located at 1537 University Avenue in the Corner Mall Shopping Center, OxfordSip is a health shop that has become a hot spot for students on-the-go.
While enjoying a loaded tea or cookie dough-flavored protein shake, customers are consuming many healthy ingredients they may not be able to taste.
All shakes and teas are plant and soy-based, according to owner Brent Cartwright. Even though some are sweet, they contain zero added sugars making them all diabetic-friendly. The loaded teas are perfect for an extra energy and vitamin boost and contain only 24 calories.
The gluten-free protein shakes can be used as meal replacements, containing 24 grams of protein and only 200-250 calories. The ten shake flavors serve as a healthy alternative to most drive-thru options.
“Our best selling shake has been the peanut butter cup, and the tea has been either Tranquility or Mermaid,” Cartwright said. “The tea and shakes are Herbalife products which is a great brand.”
The brand Herbalife is known to increase the speed of a consumer’s metabolism, assisting in weight loss. Teas contain caffeine which results in an energy boost, while shakes are packed with nutrients leaving customers feeling full. There is no energy drain after consuming the product like a burger and fries would at a fast-food restaurant, Cartwright said.
“The shakes are the best for college students on-the-go who want a nutritious meal replacement instead of a fast food place,” employee Caleb Cartwright said.
In the upcoming season, the store plans to add flavors of the week that will offer new options along with the original ten. The addition of seasonal flavors are also in discussion as a possibility, the Cartwrights said. Additionally, the health shop is planning to add a protein coffee and more protein bars in the future.
