A Lafayette County school bus caught on fire this morning, according to school and police officials; however, no injuries were reported.

At 7:50 this morning, the Oxford Police Department posted on its social media sites that the bus’ engine caught on fire on the Lafayette County School District campus and that officers and deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department were on scene and working on rerouting traffic.

At 8:30 a.m., the school district announced the fire was out and that everyone was “safe” and the school day was back in session.

“Thank you to OPD, fire department and LafCo Sheriff Dept. for your hard work this morning,” stated a Facebook post on the School District’s Facebook page.

The cause of the fire was unknown this morning.
