Mississippi Presenters’ Network to Hold Statewide Day for Art
The Mississippi Presenters Network announces Day for Art to celebrate the artists, cultural organizations and institutions who go above and beyond to preserve or advance the arts in Mississippi.
Throughout the month of January, community members across the state can go to www.presentmississippi.org/dayforart and nominate organizations or programs in their community that are working to preserve and pass on a traditional Mississippi artform, or bringing innovative new arts into the state.
In February, finalists will then go on to the voting phase. Community members will be able to vote for their favorites. The top two finalists from each region of the state (Hills, Delta, Pines, Central, and Coast) will receive awards sponsored by 4imprint and MaxxSouth Broadband.
The winners will be announced on March 14, 2019, at MSPN’s annual Mississippi Gathering. The Mississippi Gathering is a day-long series of workshops promoting the arts in Mississippi. The event includes arts organizations partnering with the Mississippi Arts Commission’s Arts Day at the Capital, free workshops for arts advocates organized by the Presenters’ Network, and a social event hosted by Cathead Distillery. The social event features Delta Music Institute Director and award-winning songwriter Tricia Walker, who will also be curating live music for the event. Awards will be presented to the winners of the Day for Art during the reception.
