Collapsed Trench Victim Identified as Como Man

A Como man died Monday after a trench collapsed on the Plein Air neighborhood in Taylor.

A Como man died Monday after a trench collapsed in the Plein Air neighborhood in Taylor.

According to Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy, Larry W. Jackson of Como was pronounced dead at the scene at about 2:36 p.m. Monday.

At approximately 1:34 p.m. Monday, the Lafayette County Fire Department, along with the Oxford Fire Department, Sheriff’s Department and CareMed were dispatched to Mosaic Drive in Taylor for a trench collapse with one man trapped inside.

Rescue workers with both fire departments used trench rescue tactics and equipment from both departments to extricate the victim, according to Lafayette County Coordinator Wes Anderson.

After about an hour, Jackson was removed from the trench; however, he was pronounced dead by Kennedy.

The trench project was being done by a private company.
