Man Unintentionally Shoots Own Leg at Rooster’s

The Oxford Police Department is investigating an accidental shooting that occurred just after midnight today at a bar on the Oxford Square.

According to OPD, officers responded to Rooster’s Blues House on the Square just after midnight today for a report of a someone discharging a firearm inside the establishment.

Officers arrived and found that a man had unintentionally shot himself in the leg. The man was taken via ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. 

OPD stated this morning that the incident is still under investigation and no one has been charged at this time.

According to State Law 45-9-101, “no license issued pursuant to this section shall authorize any person to carry a stun gun, concealed pistol or revolver into … any portion of an establishment, licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, that is primarily devoted to dispensing alcoholic beverages; any portion of an establishment in which beer or light wine is consumed on the premises, that is primarily devoted to such purpose.”
