The Ole Miss Rebel soccer team began the 2019 season with a 2-0 victory over the North Alabama Lions Thursday night under the lights of the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.

Ole Miss (1-0) got the first goal off the boot of junior Channing Foster with 17 minutes remaining until half time.

Foster attempted nine shots on the night with three shots on goal.

Head Coach Matt Mott’s club took 28 shots at the goal in the match. In the first half, the Rebels attempted 14 and in the last had another 14.

Late in the second half, the Rebels put the game away as freshman Mo O’Connor scored goal two. She finished the match with five shots attempted and four shots on goal.

Sophomore Ashley Orkus replaced Marnie Merritt as goalie and played all 90 minutes of the match. Orkus’ counterpoint, senior Savannah Stewart, defended the post by making a total of 11 saves in the match.

In the match, Ole Miss took a total of 14 corner kicks to UNA’s lone corner boot. The Rebels had six fouls called on them on the night.
