Lafayette County residents who cast their votes at the Abbeville Town Hall will have a new precinct for all upcoming elections.

On Monday, the Board of Supervisors approved changing the District 3 location to the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church at 62 County Road 106.

District 3 Supervisor David Rikard said the change was due to space issues.

“The Abbeville Town Hall served us well for a long time, but we’re just grown out of it,” he said Monday at the regular meeting. “We need more space.”

The county will pay the church $200 each election to use its space. The church has a large activities building.

The new precinct will be open for the 2020 primary election for all county, state and national elections.

Abbeville residents who live in the city limits will continue to vote at the Town Hall for all municipal elections for mayor and aldermen.
