I was happy to see the Pavilion filled last week for four basketball games and pleased that my classes had “real work” in them after syllabus week.
The basketball games produced wins and losses for both the men’s and women’s teams. I thought the Ole Miss women’s team was going to make a fourth-quarter comeback against Georgia to continue climbing the AP Poll on Sunday, but unfortunately they fell behind and lost 62-52..
I got to participate in a game by catching the basketball and throwing back onto the court. I was happy that I got to put my seventh-grade basketball skills to use. I was not the best at basketball when I was young, but I did have some great conversations with teammates on the bench. In between sitting on the court taking pictures, I got to start studying for upcoming quizzes and tests.
I started the “real work” in my classes with reading chapters in books and watching recorded lectures for my online classes. I have found out that I like to start and stop lectures as I please to take a break or to stop a professor that is talking too fast.
I have had to use the speed-up feature on videos for some lectures, too. I feel like some classes are easier online to learn at your own pace while other classes need to be in-person to understand the material fully.
Even though the semester just started with SEC basketball games and Blackboard due dates approaching, I am looking forward to the rest of the semester seeing what events are scheduled in my school organizations. I am not sure if I am looking forward to graduation, or if I am sad that it is less than 100 days away.
