Ole Miss Track & Field Women No. 19 in Outdoor Week One USTFCCCA Rating Index

Ole Miss women’s track & field opened at No. 19 in the first outdoor USTFCCCA National Rating Index released for Week One on Monday afternoon.

This is the first appearance outdoors for the Rebel women since appearing in all 10 opportunities during the 2018 season. Indoors, the Ole Miss women soared to a program-record No. 7 three different times before recording the best NCAA finish in combined program history in a tie for sixth place at the indoor national meet. This marks the 33rd total appearance for the Ole Miss women since the national rankings began in 2008. Under head coach Connie Price-Smith, the Rebel women have appeared 24 times in the outdoor rating index since 2016, with their best being a No. 15 slot in Week Two of the 2017 season.

Ole Miss is receiving a majority of its points from just three individuals: Shey Taiwo in the hammer (No. 2, 69.24m/227-02; 30.98 points), Jalani Davis in the shot put (No. 5, 17.00m/55-09.25; 23.60 points) and Lyndsey Reed in the pole vault (No. 6, 4.36m/14-03.50; 21.58 points). That trio is currently combining for 76.16 of the 91.40 total points for the Rebel women.

The USTFCCCA’s National Rating Index is a computer rating system that uses an algorithm that emphasizes individual performances, assigning a point value to each individual mark that contributes to a team total to assess its national ranking.

Ole Miss track & field will take this coming week off to prepare for its second home meet of the season, the Joe Walker Invitational, on April 8-9.
