Ole Miss Emerging As Leader for Four-Star Greenwood Linebacker

Frederrick Ford has been deliberate with his recruitment, taking visits, gathering information and figuring out which programs actually fit him.

Now that the spring travel is done, the Greenwood (Miss.) linebacker has a clearer picture of where things stand. Five schools remain in the mix, but two have started to pull ahead.

Florida State, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Tennessee are all still alive as Ford heads into official visit season. But when asked who sits at the top right now, he didn’t hesitate.

“Ole Miss and Tennessee,” Ford told Rivals’ Chad Simmons. “They’ve been recruiting me the most. The coaches have been very consistent, they reach out a lot and they show me they really want me.”

Tennessee has been especially aggressive.

“They hit me every day,” Ford said. “The coaches recruit me hard. They made me feel special during my visit, too. I really like the coaches, the way they practice and how organized they are.”

Ole Miss has built its own momentum, leaning on familiarity and a defensive plan that fits what Ford wants. He’s been to Oxford multiple times and has grown comfortable with Pete Golding and the staff.

“He’s a great guy,” Ford said of Golding. “I like his confidence, and he knows what to do with me.”

The Rebels see him as an outside linebacker or edge defender, a role that lines up with how Ford sees himself at the next level.

“I like Ole Miss a lot. They run a great defense, it is not far from home and the staff has made me feel like a top guy.”

The official visits will tell the rest of the story. Mississippi State gets the first shot on May 29, followed by Ole Miss on June 2. Florida State hosts him June 5, Tennessee on June 12 and LSU on June 19.

Ford originally thought about committing soon after the visits, but new interest has slowed that timeline.

“I thought about committing right after my official visits in the summer, but schools like Miami and Missouri have just entered the picture, so I will wait,” he said. “I will take my time, find the right school and see how I fit in the team.”

For now, the board is set, the visits are scheduled and two SEC programs have the early edge. The next two months will decide whether that holds.
