For the third time this year and fourth time in his career, Ole Miss men’s tennis senior Nik Scholtz (Caledon, South Africa) has been named the SEC Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday.
Scholtz went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles to help the Rebels to an undefeated week, including wins against Auburn and No. 15 Florida. With their second win over Florida this season, the Rebels, currently ranked No. 13 in the nation, improved to 12-4 and 4-1 in the SEC.
After beating 59th-ranked Lukas Ollert (Auburn) in straight sets on Friday, Scholtz rallied to defeat 64th-ranked Diego Hidalgo in three sets on Sunday. Down a set, at 3-3 in the second, Scholtz won nine consecutive games to clinch the Rebels third straight league win.
Scholtz improved to 10-3 at No. 1 singles and is now 7-1 against ranked foes this season. He also teamed with freshman Zvonimir Babic to post two wins at No.1 doubles, only dropping three games total. The pair is now 6-1 on the year.
The Rebels began a three-match road trip Wednesday at Mississippi State before traveling to face LSU and No. 9 Texas A&M this weekend.
