Lafayette County Search and Rescue Pulls Two From River

On July 5, the Lafayette County Search and Rescue team successfully pulled two young adults from the Little Tallahatchie River after the two adults’ boat capsized during the high waters and strong current. The Little Tallahatchie River reached flood stage on July 3 and began receding today.

The accident happened at the Frank Walker Landing near Abbeville. Bill Taylor of Oxford saw a man and woman stranded in the water and called 911 for help. When the Lafayette County Search and Rescue team arrived on scene, Taylor recorded the rescue. The rescue can be seen at the three minute mark on the video. 

Parts of Lafayette County have been under flood warning since July 3.Today, the National Weather Service in Memphis issued a flash flood warning for the Southeastern portion of Lafayette County until 12:30 p.m.

Doppler radar estimated one to three inches of rain occurred between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m., and showers and thunderstorms produced an additional one to three inches through noon.
