The University of Mississippi will honor the memory of faculty, staff, and students who have died during the past year at its annual UM Memorial Ceremony in the Paris-Yates Chapel on Thursday, May 5 at 4:00 p.m.

The memorial ceremony was first instituted by former Chancellor, Robert Khayat, in 2008 and is open to the public. The ceremony will consist of music from the University String Quartet and speeches from special guests. Among those guests are: Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Dr. Brandi Hephner LaBanc and Logan Kirkland who serves as Editor-in-Chief for The Daily Mississippian.

Ty Allushuski, Assistant to the Vice Chancellor and Ole Miss Family Association of Student Affairs, will be helping direct the ceremony this year.

“The University Memorial Service is a way for us to come together as an Ole Miss family and honor members of the family whom we have loss over the past year,” Allushuski said. “The memorial service is a great tradition on our campus and certainly something that means a lot to a lot of different people.”

Allushuski went on to say that the university hopes that the memorial service doesn’t have to expand too much in future years because it’s always difficult dealing with death. However, the university is always trying to evolve and make that day as special as possible for the family members, friends, and fellow faculty, staff, and students who will be attending.
