Ole Miss Football: Chad Kelly Must Remain Calm Off the Field
Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly has a calm demeanor while on the field of play. He needs to make sure he keeps that same attitude when he is off the field.
A video circulated around all forms of media Friday night of Chad Kelly being restrained as he tried to run onto a high school football field. There is no word in that first sentence that can possibly be good for the Ole Miss Rebels. Chad Kelly being in the news for anything other than throwing a touchdown is not normally good news.
Kelly was back in New York to watch his brother play football. The video shows Kelly attempting to run on the field to get involved with a fight in which his brother was involved. He made it on the field but before anything could happen he was pushed back.

Rebels Shoot Season-Low 285 to Finish Seventh in Denver

The Ole Miss women’s golf team recorded its best round of the season, going 3-under (285) to finish seventh with a season-low 877 at the Ron Moore Women’s Intercollegiate.
It was an outstanding all-around performance by the Rebels on the final day at Highlands Ranch Golf Course. All four counting golfers were even par or under, resulting in the team’s first round under par of the season.
“We are proud of the team for their low round today,” said head coach Kory Henkes. “This is the best we have played tee to green this season. In order to continue improving we have a lot of work to do around the greens before our next event.”
Senior Maria Toennessen set the pace all weekend in Denver. The Grimstad, Norway native finished out at 217, one stroke above her career-low of 216 set at the 2014-15 Rebel Intercollegiate.
“Maria played well this week,” Henkes said. “She is a team leader with her positive attitude week in and week out. She had a solid ball-striking week, which contributed to her success.”
Toennessen notched an even-par 72 in Round 2 but said afterward that her goal for the final day was to go under par. She did just that, amassing six birdies to go 2-under par and record the second best 18-hole score of her career.
“Today was really fun,” Toennessen said. “I’ve been hitting the ball great all week, and today I made a lot of birdies and kept putting myself in good positions.”
Freshman Pi-Lillebi Hermansson was instrumental to the strong finish for Ole Miss. She closed out with a birdie on the third hole to go 1-under (71), one stroke off her low 18 as a Rebel.
“We love Pi’s competitive nature,” Henkes said. “She sets high standards for herself and expects greatness each time she tees it up.”
Sophomore Martina Flori set the tone for the outstanding round with an eagle on her second hole of the day. She finished at even-par (72), putting her one stroke off of her career-low, both for 18 and 54 holes. Her 223 nearly matched the 222 she turned in during last year’s SEC Championship.
Senior Madisen Bentley came through with a birdie on her second-to-last hole, one of four on the day, to close out at even-par 72.
Junior Katy Harris closed out a strong tournament, notching three birdies to go 1-over (73) and leave Denver at 221, her best 54-hole score as a Rebel.
“The team really enjoyed playing a course that was in great shape with breathtaking scenery,” Hermansson said. “The scores showed that we have been working hard and are pushing each other in the right direction.”
All five Rebels finished in the top-50 on the individual leaderboard—a first for Ole Miss since the Samford Intercollegiate in March 2015. The team’s 285 in Round 3 and 877 tournament score are its lowest in more than a year, dating back to the CSU Fall Invitational last October.
“I’m really proud of the team, especially shooting under par collectively today,” Toennessen said. “We keep getting better and better as a team, so if we keep doing in this direction, we can do really well this year.”
The Rebels will look to keep the momentum going in two weeks, when they head to Kiawah Island, South Carolina for the Palmetto Intercollegiate, Oct. 23-25.

Rebel Soccer Falls to No. 16 Florida
The Rebels (8-7, 3-4 SEC) fell behind early and couldn’t recover, as the Gators (10-3, 5-2 SEC) got two scores off the foot of Savannah Jordan.
Florida took an early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute when Samantha Chung found Jordan for the score from the far post. The Gators increased their advantage to 2-0 in the 39th minute when Pamela Begic found the net, before Jordan netted her second of the match in the 58th.
Ole Miss finished the contest with four shots with one each from CeCe Kizer, Maddi Falter, Addie Forbus and Georgia Russell. Falter had one on target early on, while Forbus’ attempt in the 52nd minute looked to be the Rebels’ best chance of the night on a shot from the far post that was saved by the Florida goalkeeper.
Rebel goalkeeper Marnie Merritt made five saves on the night while Florida’s Kaylan Marckese made two.
Ole Miss returns to the pitch Friday against Texas A&M for the final home match of 2016, where the Rebel senior class will be honored in Senior Night.

Ole Miss Volleyball Falls to Texas A&M 3-1
Despite 22 kills on a .280 clip from junior outside hitter Kate Gibson, the Ole Miss volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-12, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18) decision to defending SEC Champion Texas A&M Sunday at The Pavilion at Ole Miss.
The Aggies came out of the gate and used a 6-1 run to open up the first set 8-3 and force Ole Miss to use their first timeout. Texas A&M followed the timeout with a 6-2 run to go up 14-5, forcing the Rebels to call their last timeout of the set. The Aggies closed out the Rebels 25-12 on a .286 hitting percentage and sided out 83 percent, while the Rebels were held to -.032 and sided out at just 40 percent.
Ole Miss rebounded nicely in the second set hitting .361 and siding out at 71 percent to get back in the match. The Rebels started off with a 5-2 lead forcing A&M to use their first timeout. The Aggies went on a 10-5 run to take the lead 12-10 and Ole Miss called timeout. Following the timeout, the Rebels won two straight points. The teams traded points to 15-15, before Ole Miss went on a 4-1 run to pull ahead 19-16. A&M got as close as 19-20 after a timeout, but the Rebels finished on a 5-2 run to win the set 25-21 and even the match at 1-1.
The Rebels came out of the break down 0-4 which led to an Ole Miss timeout. Following the timeout, the Rebels went on a 10-4 run to take a 10-8 lead forcing A&M to call timeout. The two teams traded points, but at 11-11, the Aggies used a 4-0 run to pull ahead by four 15-11 as Ole Miss called timeout. The Rebels kept battling and tried to inch closer, getting to within one, 19-20, before the Aggies closed out the set 5-1 for 25-20 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the previous two meetings in Oxford, the match went five sets. Looking to extend the match to another fifth set, the Rebels got off to a good start in the fourth, up 5-2. Texas A&M regained the lead in the middle of the set and never relinquished it again, winning 25-18 to finish off the Rebels 3-1.
The Rebels failed to incorporate their middle hitters with Taylor Alexander and Nayo Warnell combining for six kills on the day, while A&M’s middle blockers combined for 22 kills and both hit over .300. Alexander did finish with five blocks.
