The Ole Miss Rebels women’s basketball team took down the Mississippi College Choctaws 66-35 in an exhibition game on Thursday night in the Pavilion at Ole Miss.

The Rebels jumped out to an early 20-7 lead at the end of the first quarter of play and never looked back.
Junior Madinah Muhammad led the way in scoring for the Rebels with 18 points. She also pulled down 4 boards and 5 assists. Her teammate, senior Shandricka Sessom, scored 7 points with 4 assists.
Muhammad was not the only Rebel to reach double figures in scoring on the night as junior Barbara Johnson and freshman Promise Taylor tacked on 13 and 12 points respectively.
“I thought Promise played timid and scared early, but then she got playing better there late,” Ole Miss head coach Matt Insell said. “I think the more minutes she plays, the better she’s going to be. She played really well in the closed scrimmage we had last week that earned her a starting spot.”
A total of nine different players scored a basket in the game.
The Rebel defense limited Mississippi College to 28.3 percent shooting and forced 27 turnovers. But Ole Miss had some first-game jitters, too, as they turned the ball over 25 times.
On November 10, the Rebels will tip off the regular season against Northwestern State at 5 p.m.
