State of Emergency in Effect as Subtropical Storm Alberto Approaches Coast Today

Gov. Phil Bryant issued a state of emergency Saturday in wake of subtropical storm Alberto approaching the Gulf Coast early this week. The signed proclamation makes the National Guard and other state resources available should they become necessary.
Alberto is currently producing winds nearing 65 mph, the National Hurricane Center reports. The storm will likely become a subtropical depression tonight or early Tuesday. 

The storm cut Oxford residents Steve and Leah Wooten’s weekend short as took precautions and made the drive back to north Mississippi. 
“We had planned to leave today but left yesterday before the rain was predicted to begin,” Leah Wooten said. “We pushed the patio and balcony furniture to the wall of our condo. Our condo has weathered hurricanes without damage or flooding so nothing else was needed.”
