A Lafayette County man who died Wednesday when his house caught on fire has been identified as Luke Hazlerig, 81, owner of Luke’s Appliance Services.

The Lafayette County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department responded at 10:30 Wednesday morning to a house fire on 367 Highway 334. Firefighters discovered Hazlerig in the house.
Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy pronounced Hazlerig dead at the scene.
Hazlerig’s body was turned over to the Lafayette County coroner to be transported to Jackson for an autopsy; however, foul play is not expected at this time, according to the sheriff’s department.
Hazlerig reportedly lived alone in the home.
