Jefferson Avenue opened Friday with a new left-turning lane onto North Lamar Boulevard.

The road was closed for more than two weeks to allow workers to demolish part of the road, relocate utilities and form the new turning lane.

The new, left-turning signal on Jefferson Avenue is now open.

The road opened last week but the turning lane was not complete until Friday.
The contractor was J.M. Duncan Inc.
The turning lane was put in to help alleviate traffic back-up in anticipation of the future downtown parking garage that is planned to be constructed in the nearby city parking lot.
Schools in Oxford opened today and Jefferson Avenue is the main route for buses going from Bramlett Elementary and the Oxford Middle School to the Oxford Intermediate School off Washington Avenue.
