Student Organization to Host Miss America Watch Party for Ole Miss, Community

An Ole Miss graduate and a current student will represent the states of Mississippi and Tennessee in the 2019 Miss America pageant on Sunday, Sept. 9 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. 

In honor of the current and former Ole Miss students, the Student Activities Association will host a Miss America Watch Party in the Student Union Ballroom at 8 p.m.

Miss Mississippi Asya Branch, a current Ole Miss student in the integrated marketing communications program, and Miss Tennessee Christine Williamson, a May 2018 journalism graduate of the Meek School and New Media, are both in the race to be crowned the next Miss America.

Miss Tupelo Asya Branch was named Miss Mississippi at the state pageant in Vicksburg.

Branch’s platform revolves around programs for children of incarcerated parents. Williamson’s platform is the Alzheimer’s Association: Advocating, Fundraising and Providing Hope.

Miss Chattanooga Christine Williamson was named Miss Tennessee at the state pageant in Jackson, Tennessee.

Runners-up in this year’s Miss Mississippi were Miss New South, Tanner Fant of Starkville as first-runner up; second runner-up was Miss Northland, Holly Harrington of Tupelo; third runner-up was Miss Pontotoc Ridge, Danna Wesley of West Point and the fourth runner-up was Miss. University of Southern Mississippi, Macy Mitchell of Petal.
