Oxford Mourns the Loss of 52-year-old Endocrinologist

Oxford endocrinologist Dr. Andrew Martin Chandler, known to most as Mart, died Thursday at the age of 52 from an apparent heart attack, according to the Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy.

Dr. Andrew “Mart” Martin

Born in Jackson, Chandler graduated from Raleigh High School, Jones County Junior College, Mississippi College and attended medical school in Kansas City, Missouri.

He served his patients in northeast Mississippi for 13 years. He is described as being a caring and passionate endocrinologist and an active and loving family man who relished the time spent with his wife, Lorie Vinson Chandler of Oxford, and his children, Lauren and Ryan.

He was an avid Ole Miss sports fan who loved Halloween and doing yard work, of which those who knew him would joke about his devotion. He was an active member of Oxford-University United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oxford-University United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eddie Rester and the Rev. Chris McAlilly officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Saturday in the West Hall at Waller Funeral Home and again prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. in the atrium at the church.

A graveside service will be held Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. at Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko with the Rev. Barry Corbitt officiating.
