According to the MHP, at about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, a 2005 car driven by Kristopher Griste, 22, of Oxford, was traveling north on Highway 7 near Abbeville when he struck the side of a south-bound freight liner driven by Aubrey Cannon of Whiteville, Tennessee.

Griste then hit a Chevrolet passenger car driven by Hugo Tristan Luevano, 49, of Tate County.

Another car, driven by Carlos Gomez-Morales was traveling south and collided with the other three vehicles.

Griste and Gomez-Morales were transported to local hospitals with injuries.

Luevano died at the scene, according to Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy.

MHP said the cause of the wreck is still under investigation.

According to the Spanish news site, En Resumen Noticias, Luevano is survived by his wife and children who are living in Zacatecas, Mexico. He was apparently driving to work when the wreck occurred.

A GoFundMe account was established by his family to help pay for the funeral and to send Luevano’s body back to Mexico.
