The Oxford Chargers return to the gridiron Friday night as they play host to the Columbus Falcons for homecoming. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Bobby Holcomb Field.

Oxford High School celebrated homecoming this week by hosting a week of spirit days and other activities for the student body and faculty to take part in.

“I challenged our team at the beginning of the week that even with all of the festivities, our job is to stay focused on playing great this Friday night,” head football coach Chris Cutcliffe said.

Oxford (6-2, 3-1) heads into the game after dropping a hard-fought loss to Horn Lake 28-17. The Chargers took advantage of the short field situations in the first half making several big plays on defense and in the kicking game.

Cutcliffe said the Chargers responded with a solid week of practice and work.

Columbus had a rough start to the 2018 season as they sit at 0-5 on the year and 0-3 in the division. The Falcons suffered a hard-fought 27-14 loss to the Southaven Chargers last Friday night.

“Columbus has a new coaching staff this season and they have team speed,” Cutcliffe said. “They play people on both sides of the ball that will give us a lot of things we have to prepare for.”
