The Snackbar Restaurant recently donated $1,250 to Oxford School District’s Good Food for Oxford Schools.

The funds were donated Monday during the monthly meeting of the Oxford School Board of Trustees by Snackbar general manager Jeffrey Grimes. Snackbar is owned by John Currence and Vishwesh Bhatt is the chef.

The donation comes from the proceeds of the Mississippi Monday program, a series of four dinners prepared by local chefs to show their support in their local community.

The donation given to Good Food for Oxford Schools is in support of the mission to create district-wide healthy changes through cafeterias and classrooms, connecting kids to where food comes from and educating students and their families about good food as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Grimes thanked the community for supporting the Mississippi Monday program.

“We would like to say thank you … the local chefs who traveled to take part and the providers of local products for these dinners,” Grimes said. “We look forward to doing this again in the future.”

Eleanor Green, GFOS director said that they plan to use the funds for lessons in the classroom and scholarships for the high school cooking classes.
