Ole Miss senior offensive lineman Javon Patterson was named to the 2018 SEC Football Community Service Team by the league office last week.
This marks the second consecutive year that the Petal, Mississippi native has been selected to the team. Patterson has been a four-year starter for the Rebels and appeared in 42 total games in his career with 36 consecutive starts. He is a member of the NCAA DI Football Recruiting Ad Hoc Working Group and was a two-time nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy, as well as a member of the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Patterson helped start Patterson’s Footlocker, a collection effort to gather new socks for homeless shelters in Mississippi. Patterson, along with other members of Ole Miss’ Student Advisory Committee helped collect over 6,000 pairs of socks that were shipped out to communities all over the state of Mississippi.
The conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21-league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
