Due to water main breaks from the excessive flooding in the city, Oxford Utilities has issued a self-imposed precautionary boil-water notice for all customers that receive water from the city of Oxford, including those customers outside the city limits.
This does not affect other water systems – it only affects customers on the city of Oxford water system, Oxford Utilities. The city will be collecting water samples to be tested by the Mississippi Department of Health.
Until the precautionary Boil-water Notice is lifted, customers are advised to boil all water for one minute before using tap water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, et cetera.
Do not use ice made from recent tap water.
Several buildings on the University of Mississippi campus receive water from the city of Oxford.
Visitors and UM faculty, staff and students at the following campus facilities should take precautionary measures by boiling water vigorously for one minute before it is consumed:
- Campus Walk Apartments
- The Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts
- Rowan Oak
- University Museum
- South Oxford Center
- Carriage House
- Memory House
- Walton-Young House
- Jackson Avenue Center
- Music Building
- Grisham House
