The Oxford High School Football team partnered with the University of Mississippi department of education to form a leadership program for the team beginning this fall.
Head Coach Chris Cutcliffe said the program, dubbed “Charger for Life,” allocates time for him and his staff to meet with the football team to discuss topics once a week that do not necessarily pertain to football.
Hunter Taylor, clinical assistant professor of teacher education at the university, helps conduct the leadership program with Cutcliffe and his staff. He said Cutcliffe worked with his staff to present a program that would also be a representation of the Oxford School District portrait of a graduate.
Each player on the OHS team will participate in the program. Cutcliffe said another aspect of the program is position session. Coaches of each position will meet with their respected players to discuss not only football but how to better themselves as individuals and within the Oxford community.
The “Charger for Life” Program was created to build a connected team and foster relationships amongst the players and coaches, Cutcliffe said.
The “Charger for Life” website goes live in the month of August.
Oxford opens the 2019 season as they play host to Northwest Rankin (Brandon, Miss) on August 23. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
