Mississippi Fact: 9/19/13

James Copeland’s outlaw career ended with his hanging in 1857. A body snatcher dug up his corpse and cleaned the flesh off. A doctor wired the bones together and made a standing skeleton. The skeleton was displayed in his office until it was later given to a drug store in Hattiesburg. Around 1900 someone broke into the store, and stole Copeland’s bones…but nothing else.
