The National Weather Service has upgraded Lafayette County to a “Moderate Risk”, or a 4 on its 0-5 scale, for severe weather occurring Wednesday afternoon.
Strong damaging winds, heavy rainfall and a few tornadoes are possible.
The NWS also issued a Wind Advisory for Lafayette County from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
As the line of storms moves into Mississippi, wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph in some areas, with sustained winds around 30 mph.

Power outages are possible due to downed trees and powerlines. The NWS suggests securing all loose lawn ornaments, patio furniture and trash cans.
The most severe storms are expected to happen between 2 and 6 p.m. in Lafayette County.
The Oxford School District and Lafayette County School District announced they were watching weather reports and warnings from the NWS “closely” to determine if schools will be closed early Wednesday. Both districts said they will make an announcement by mid-morning Wednesday.
